For this listing, I really wanted to create a layout and "feel" that would be elegant and refined, yet clear and hospitable – just like Billy Collins himself. I tried a bunch of different layouts at first but couldn't find anything that seemed to work just right. Finally, I tried browsing OSWD for inspiration and came across Transmission, a really simple yet beautiful layout by Tri-Star Web Design. I usually wouldn't want to take a layout almost directly from a template, but it just seemed so perfect. So, with some revisions, the Billy Collins fanlisting was born.
The title of this fanlisting comes from my absolute favorite Billy Collins poem, which was the first one I ever read. "Marginalia" is a gorgeous poem that uses margin notes – the little notes scrawled in the margins of books – as its inspiration. I love how the poem talks about what it is like to be a reader and to share the experience, even indirectly, with other readers. It seems to me to be the perfect title for a Billy Collins fanlisting. :) I love this poem so much and really encourage you to read it yourself if you haven't already.
The main image and the ones used for linking buttons all came from the Library of Congress and are available for public use. The fonts used are Arial and 04b24. The only programs used in the creation of this fanlisting were Microsoft Notepad and Corel Paint Shop Pro 11.
