Apples to Apples Trivia

Editions: There are at least eight, versions of Apples to Apples, including the original, Apples to Apples Junior, Apples to Apples Kids, Apples to Apples: Jewish Edition, and Apples to Apples: Bible Edition, Apples to Apples: German Edition, Apples to Apples: British Isles Edition, and Apples to Apples: Yiddish Edition. There are also a variety of "expansion packs" available, as well as expanded and smaller versions for larger parties or travel.

Awards: Apples to Apples is one of the most award-winning games of the past decade, with its many wins and titles including Mensa International's 1999 "Mensa Select" prize, "Party Game of the Year" in 1999 by Games magazine, and the National Parenting Center's "Seal of Approval" in 1999. In 2002, the game's Expansion Set 3 won the Origins Award, America's highest award for games, for Best Card Game Expansion or Supplement.

Combinations: Some of the favorite combinations of Apples to Apples fans include darkly funny ones like "Ridiculous" and "Women's Rights," "Lucky" and "Abraham Lincoln," and – the most legendary one of all – "Touchy-Feely" and "Helen Keller." For most Apples to Apples players, no combination can be too offensive to be off-limits – even the harshest card combinations can provoke a good laugh. Yet the majority of card combinations are much more tame, like "Boring" and "Carl Sagan" or "Offensive" and "Detroit."

Trump Cards: There are no official trump cards in Apples to Apples, of course, but there are some that seem to be universal favorites of players, including Helen Keller, Anne Frank, Sean Connery, and Abraham Lincoln.
