In case you are unfamiliar, a fanlisting is exactly what it sounds like: a collective of people from across
the world who share an interest in a similar subject. By joining a fanlisting, you are adding your name to a
worldwide registry of people with a shared interest. You can learn more about fanlistings by visiting TFL 101.
Political science is defined by Wikipedia as the
"branch of social science concerned with theory, description, analysis and
prediction of political behavior, political systems, and politics broadly-construed."
It is also sometimes called Political Studies or simply Government in academia, and is
typically abbreviated as "Poli Sci" in North America and "Pol Sci" or simply "Pols" in many other areas. In
French-speaking nations, it is normally sciences po.
Almost all institutions of higher learning offer Political Science as a field of study for undergraduate students,
and most offer it for those pursuing higher secondary degrees. For the 2006-2007 academic year, Political Science
was the tenth most popular academic major (course of study) in the United States.
In studying Political Science, students typically read the works of thinkers like Plato, Aristotle,
Euripides, Locke, Smith, Machiavelli, Marx, and others. Since it is an interdisciplinary social science,
students also study economics, statistics, history, and other fields rather than focusing exclusively on
politics.
