Fanlistings

In case you are unfamiliar, a fanlisting is exactly what it sounds like: a collective of people from across the world who share an interest in a similar subject. By joining a fanlisting, you are adding your name to a worldwide registry of people with a shared interest. You can learn more about fanlistings by visiting TFL 101.

Connecticut

Known as the Land of Steady Habits, the Nutmeg State, the Constitution State, the Arsenal of the Nation, and a myriad of other things, Connecticut is one of the original Thirteen Colonies and the fifth state to be admitted to the Union. Originally an independent colony founded by separatists from the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Connecticut quickly established a reputation as a center for innovation, education, and traditional Yankee independence, qualities for which it is still known today.

Bordered by New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, Connecticut is home to Yale University, Mystic Seaport, the Litchfield Hills, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and a portion of the Appalachian Trail. Its largest cities are Bridgeport, New Haven, and the capital, Hartford. Tourists appreciate both the large urban areas and the completely rural New England villages found within the state.

Connecticut was the birthplace of many notable figures, including Katharine Hepburn (Hartford), Harriet Beecher Stowe (Litchfield), Nathan Hale (Coventry), Liz Phair (New Haven), and John Brown (Torrington). Political figures as diverse as Ralph Nader (Winsted) and George W. Bush (New Haven) hail from the Nutmeg State.

Although less than intimidating in size – it is the third smallest state – Connecticut is home to about 3.5 million people, known as Nutmeggers. If you haven't come to visit us recently, we'd love to see you!
